ארבע עונות- קיץ

בניגוד לאביב שמתעתע עד שהוא נכנס על מלא, הקיץ מגיע בבת אחת. 40 מעלות חם ויבש -תתמודדי!!!

ישר התמודדתי והלכתי לשחות בנהר. כי מה יכול להיות יותר נכון, מרענן, טבעי וקריר מהנהר העצום שזורם לו פה ממש לרגלינו?

נהר הצלופח Eel River כך קוראים לו, למרות שאין בו צלופחים.

נהר הצלופח הוא נהר גדול בקליפורניה, שאורכו כמעט 320 קילומטרים, והוא השלישי בגודלו במדינה. הוא ידוע בנוף הפראי והמגוון שלו ובאוכלוסיות חשובות של דגי סלמון ודגי סטילהד.

זה הנהר בו אנו שוחים עושים רפטינג וקמפינג ומבלים אינספור שעות בכל קיץ.

בגלל המרחק שלנו מכל ציוויליזציה יש לנו בעצם חופים פרטיים ומקומות סודיים שרק המקומיים מכירים. 😎

הפכתי כל כך מפונקת שאם יש עוד מישהו בחוף שבחרתי לרחוץ בו אני מתבאסת ומרגישה שאיבדתי את הפרטיות.

אגב, בממלכת ההיפים רחצה בעירום מקובלת לחלוטין.😎

אחד המקומות האהובים עלי הוא "המפלים".

אין שום שילוט או הכוונה למפלים. או שאתה יודע איפה זה, או שתלך עם מקומי.

הליכה של כ 15 דקות מכביש צדדי , דרך שביל צר ומתפתל, למטה למטה למטה מביאה אותך לבריכה עגולה, נקיה ועמוקה של מים כחולים, צלולים שאפשר לקפוץ לתוכה מהסלעים הענקיים שמקיפים אותה. המים זורמים אל תוך הבריכה ממפלים ואפשר לשבת עם הגב למפל להחזיק חזק כדי לא להסחף ולקבל מסג' מן הטבע. זה כל כך מבודד ופראי וזה מלהיב אותי....

חלקים מהנהר עוברים דרך שטחים פרטיים ואז נתח מרהיב של הנהר הוא לגמרי שלך. "הנהר שלך". באיזור שלנו אנשים לא בונים כלום ליד הנהר אלא משאירים אותו כמו שהוא, טבעי ופראי. אין סכרים, אין פרגולות ואין פינות ישיבה. אתה בא עם ההצללה הזמנית שלך, או אוהל ומחצלת וכשאתה עוזב הכל נשאר כמו שבאת (לרוב😏). גם בשטחים הפרטיים אנשים לא מסמנים את השטח שלהם אלא נהנים ממנו כפי שהוא.

נסעתי עם חברה לנהר שלה. חבל ארץ מבודד וקדמוני. רוב ימות השנה לא נמצאים בו בני אדם בכלל.

Land Before Time

נכנסנו למים הקרירים ,לידינו רעו איילות והתקרבו לנהר לשתות מים. היינו שקטות ורגועות והן לא חששו מאיתנו. לאורך החוף מצאנו טביעות כף רגל וקקי של דב גדול. שפיריות אדומות וכחולות טסו על פני המים ועיט דאה מעלינו.

זה רב עוצמה ומרגש להיות במקום כזה. הרגשתי ברת מזל לחוות חויה כל כך חזקה, יפה וטבעית. זה באמת רק אתה והטבע...אין שום רעש של מכוניות או בני אדם. אין ליכלוך ואין קליטה סלולרית. תודה!

זה בכלל לא מובן מאליו. איפה יש עוד מקומות כאלה? איזה מזל שזה חלק מהחיים שלי.🙏

מלבד הנהר העצום והפראי,

לצד הטבע, יש גם אגמים מלאכותיים שנקראים pond. זה בעצם חפירה ענקית מעשה ידי אדם שמתמלאת בחורף אחד במי גשמים ונוצר בה מאזן אקולוגי וזהו. יש לך בריכה פרטית בכל גודל שתבחר.

ובלילה קסום עם כיפת כוכבים זוהרים .....

לפעמים אני בכל זאת מתגעגעת לים תיכון. לרחוץ במים מלוחים חמימים.

הים שקרוב אלינו הוא האוקינוס השקט. במרחק של כשעה וחצי נסיעה אל החוף משתרע הענק הפראי והקר הזה שאפשר רק להסתכל עליו בהתפעלות....

רחב ידיים נחבט אל סלעים שחורים.

איזור החוף תמיד קריר וערפילי וכשאצלנו המעלות מטפסות מעל 40 צלזיוס אנחנו בורחים לנפוש בעיירות החוף הקרירות. על אף שמדובר רק בשעה וחצי נסיעה זהו עולם אחר לחלוטין ומרגיש כמו חופשה קסומה בממלכת ערפילים דמיונית.

בימים ברחצה בנהר ובערבים במסיבות וארוחת ערב רבות משתתפים. שלושה חודשים של חיי חברה וקהילה. פסטיבלים, הופעות ביקבים, קמפינג וטיולים.

Four seasons - Summer

Unlike spring, which teases and flirts before fully arriving, summer comes all at once.

100°F , hot and dry—deal with it!!!

I dealt with it right away and went swimming in the river. Because what could be more right, refreshing, natural, and cool than the huge river that flows right here beneath our feet?

It’s called the Eel River, though there are no eels in it.

The Eel River is a major river in California, stretching almost 200 miles (320 km), and is the third-largest in the state. It's known for its wild, diverse landscape and its important populations of salmon and steelhead trout.

This is the river where we swim, raft, camp, and spend countless summer hours.

Because we live far from civilization, we basically have private beaches and secret spots that only locals know about. 😎

I've gotten so spoiled that if there’s even one other person on the beach I chose, I get annoyed and feel like I’ve lost my privacy.

By the way, in hippie country, nude swimming is totally acceptable.😎🐳

One of my favorite places is “The Falls.”

There’s no sign or marker for it. You either know where it is, or you go with a local.

A 15-minute walk from a side road, down a narrow winding trail, leads you deep down to a round, clean, deep pool of crystal-clear blue water. You can jump in from the massive rocks that surround it. Water flows into the pool from waterfalls, and you can sit with your back to the falls, hold on tight so you don’t get swept away, and get a natural massage.

It’s so secluded and wild—it thrills me.

Parts of the river run through private land, and then a stunning stretch of river becomes entirely yours. “Your river.” In our area, people don’t build anything near the river—they leave it natural and wild.

There are no dams, no pergolas, no sitting areas.

You bring your own shade, tent, or mat—and when you leave, everything looks the same as when you arrived (well… most of the time 😏).

Even on private land, people don’t mark their territory—they just enjoy it as is.

I went with a friend to her river.

A remote, ancient stretch of land where, for most of the year, no humans are around.

Land Before Time.

We entered the cool water, and nearby, deer grazed and approached the river to drink.

We were quiet and calm, and they weren’t afraid of us.

Along the shore we found footprints and bear scat.

Red and blue dragonflies zipped across the water, and a hawk soared above us.

It’s powerful and moving to be in such a place.

I felt lucky to experience something so strong, beautiful, and natural.

It’s truly just you and nature...

No sound of cars or people.

No trash.

No cell service.

Thank you!

This is not to be taken for granted.

Where else are there places like this?

How lucky I am that this is part of my life. 🙏

Besides the vast and wild river,

alongside nature, there are also artificial lakes called ponds.

Basically, giant man-made pits that fill with rainwater in one winter—and then an ecological balance is formed, and that’s it.

You have a private pool, in any size you choose.

Still, sometimes I miss the Mediterranean Sea.

Swimming in warm, salty water.

The sea closest to us is the Pacific Ocean.

An hour and a half drive takes you to the wild, cold giant where all you can do is look at it in awe...

Vast, crashing into black rocks.

The coastal area is always cool and foggy, and when temperatures climb above 100°F where we live, we escape to the cool beach towns.

Though it’s just a 1.5-hour drive, it feels like a whole different world—like a magical vacation in an imaginary fog kingdom.

We’ll squeeze every drop out of this summer.

Daytime swims in the river, evening parties and large shared dinners.

Three months of community and social life.

Festivals, winery concerts, camping, and hikes.

Long live summer.🌞
